1. General
Sotogrande is a luxury private resort, of about 2000 hectares and was built in 1962. Initially, Sotogrande was only a golf club, but later it grew into a community. It is located in the Spanish municipality of San Roque and is an hour’s drive from Malaga Airport and a 15-minute drive from Gibraltar Airport.
2. Sights
Because Sotogrande is relatively new, it has no real history. However, it is close to other villages so there is a lot to see and do in the nearby area.
Sotogrande is one of Spain’s most glamorous harbors. You can take a beautiful walk along the yachts moored here.
Sotogrande is also located in the middle of a nature park. The park is ideal for cycling, because there are several marked routes and bike rental points to find.
In nearby San Roque you can visit the Museo Luis Ortega Brú. Here you will find a large collection of sculptures of this artist who was born here.
3. Culinary delights
In Sotogrande you will find a wide choice of restaurants and something suitable for everyone.
Foodisiac is really culinary enjoyment. It offers a mix of Andalusian cuisine with some Asian influences. Here you will find traditional dishes with a modern twist. You can go here for brunch, lunch with the kids or cocktails in the evening, and the terrace has a beautiful view of the harbor.
Want to eat Italian food? Then we can warmly recommend Lombardo’s to you. A cosy restaurant run by the Lombardo family since 1989. Everything is homemade, which you can taste! The richly filled minestrone soup or the Pennette alla Siciliana are one of the appreciated dishes.
4. Lifestyle
Sotogrande is a beautiful urbanisation that is located right in front of Marbella and just before Gibraltar. This makes this city easy to reach by car or by bus. Sotogrande is also called Beverly Hills on the coast. Do you like a luxury life? Then this is the ideal place for you. Because it actually has everything, it is perfect for young and old.
5. Nightlife
Around the port of Sotogrande there are numerous cocktail bars and cafes where you can enjoy a delicious drink after sunset.
Bokana is known for its exclusive cocktails. Sip from your Apple Julep while looking around the beautifully styled room.
For a delicious Gin & Tonic you can sit on the terrace at Ké Bar & Restaurant. Do you prefer a good glass of Rioja? No problem, they have a wide range of (ecological) wines.
SOHO Club is a nightclub where DJ’s play as well as live performances are given. However, this club is only open during the summer months.
6. Shopping
There are many stores in and around Sotogrande. There are also several important shopping areas and shopping malls. Whether it concerns your daily shopping or fashion, household items or special tools, there are numerous stores that offer it all.
Blue Sotogrande is a car-free shopping destination in the marina, where you will find art galleries, stores, bars and restaurants.
In addition, the commercial complex of Galerias Paniagua is located at the entrance of Sotogrande Costa and is home to several restaurants and stores.
The Sotogrande Sunday Market takes place every Sunday at the port from 10.00 – 15.00 hours. The brightly colored stands offer a variety of antiques, fashion and handmade jewelry. This Sunday market is a good trip to do with the family.
The Vintage Market in Sotogrande is also held during the summer months. This weekly market of vintage objects takes place on Friday from 10.00 to 15.00 hours. More than 40 stalls can be found with a wide variety of products and handicrafts made by great artists.
7. Sports & Leisure
There are five golf courses in Sotogrande. One of them is the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. It is located on a unique piece of land close to the beach, between the river Guadiaro Sotogrande and the marina. It is one of the top ten golf courses in Europe.
There are also several squash, padel and tennis courts at the resort.
Sotogrande is also the ideal destination for horse lovers. It is the home of the Valderrama and the San Roque equestrian centers, which offer both dressage and jumping classes for both beginners and advanced riders. Or learn to play polo at the Santa María Polo Club.

8. Beaches & Beach Clubs
Sotogrande has a coastal area of about 10 km long. Here you have a lot of space and it is remarkably quiet. Parking is no problem at all. On many stretches you only see the sea with dunes. However, facilities such as rental of sunbeds or public toilets you will not find here.
Closer to the harbor is Playa Sotogrande. At this beach you will find Chiringuito Gigi’s Beach. Here you can rent lounge beds and umbrellas and in the afternoon you can enjoy a refreshing drink and a delicious freshly grilled fish. In addition, a DJ spins in the weekends.
