Mijas will gain the largest landscaped park in the entire Costa del Sol with the “Grand Park Costa del Sol” (also called Gran Parque de Mijas). Work began in spring 2023 and would be completed by February 2025. The park will be a location where numerous hobbies can be performed and events will be organized. The Grand Park Costa del Sol is being built in el Cortijo del Ahogadero in Las Lagunas, Mijas and is therefore also easily accessible from the center of Fuengirola (about a 10-minute drive). From the center of Las Lagunas de Mijas it is a 1.5 km walk.

Grand Park Costa del Sol, as its name suggests, will be the largest landscaped park on the entire Costa del Sol. Over 350,000m2 of area will feature artificial lakes, an amphitheater for events, climbing walls, a skate park, running track, bike path, water attractions and much more. Also 20,000 plants and more than 2,000 trees and shrubs will be able to call the Grand Park Costa del Sol their home, making the park also known as the “green lung of Mijas.
Construction and architectural style
The Grand Park Costa del Sol will be built in two major phases (started in May 2023). The first phase, with an 18-month implementation period, will be the green area; while the second phase will include the construction of two access bridges. Plans to build the park were delayed due to the discovery of a Roman site a year after the project was first drafted in 2017. The project was later further delayed until the municipality acquired enough land needed to begin the project, including the purchase of 360,000 square meters of private land.
The park will have a typical Andalusian style with Arabic mosaics, fountains and even a small temple.
