Estepona expands beloved El Cristo Bay with green recreation area and additional parking
Estepona continues to develop as one of the most attractive seaside resorts on the Costa del Sol. The municipality announced plans to expand the beloved El Cristo Bay, a place that has been popular with both tourists and foreign residents for years. The new project provides for a green recreational area and additional parking to improve access to the beach.

Reclaimed land gets new use
This is a piece of land of about 30,000 m² that was sold in the 1990s, but is now owned again by the municipality. This land will be transformed into a public area that will benefit residents and visitors alike. The goal is to make the area around the beach not only more beautiful, but also more sustainable and accessible.

Sustainable urban development in Estepona
The expansion of El Cristo fits into Estepona’s broader urban model, which is committed to sustainability, quality of life and an attractive coastal area. Instead of more development, the city is deliberately opting for green areas, walkable boulevards and amenities that enhance the quality of life.
Examples of previous projects
The municipality has already completed several successful projects in recent years:
- Construction of the Mirador del Carmen, a cultural viewpoint with promenade and art galleries.
- The construction of a 20-kilometer promenade along the coast, which now allows pedestrians to walk almost uninterrupted along the Mediterranean.
Looking to the future
With the expansion of El Cristo beach, Estepona is taking another step toward becoming a modern, sustainable and welcoming city. For visitors, this means more space to relax, better facilities and an even more attractive coastal experience.
