1. General

This typically Spanish village has in recent years become a vibrant vacation resort on the coast. In less than 15 minutes from the airport of Malaga you are already in the center of Benalmádena. It has a harbor that has been proclaimed to be one of the most beautiful in Europe.

2. Sights

There is plenty to see and do in Benalmádena.

The Castillo de Colomares is a monument in the shape of a castle. It is entirely dedicated to the life and adventures of Christopher Columbus. The building looks old, but it was only built between 1987 and 1994.

In Benalmádena stands a no less than 30 meters high Buddhist stupa, the Estupa de La Iluminación. This white temple with a golden cone on top, can be seen from the entire coast of Benalmádena to Fuengirola. Inside the temple you will find a meditation room that can be visited daily, except on Mondays.

Next to the temple is the Mariposario de Benalmádena, or butterfly park. In this beautiful, covered garden butterflies flutter around in all kinds of colors. There are no less than 1500 butterflies to admire!

3. Culinary delights

In Benalmádena everyone gets their money’s worth when it comes to food. It has a wide variety of national and international restaurants.

If you like tasty tapas in a real Spanish environment you should go to Vinoteca Moncloa. This restaurant, annex wine bar, is not immediately noticeable. But once you have found it, you will be rewarded with one of the many wines they serve here.

Would you like to dine stylishly at sunset? Then we can warmly recommend Yucas Mare. International dishes with local products. Both fish and meat lovers will find what they are looking for here. Of course they also serve some vegetarian dishes.

4. Lifestyle

Benalmádena village is very easy to reach by public transport. It has a beautiful boulevard of no less than 8 km long. Because there is much to see and do, it is ideal for families. Because it is located centrally, you will be in another city in no time. It is a true paradise for sun, sea and beach lovers who also like a day out!

5. Nightlife

The nightlife is less busy than in Fuengirola and Marbella, but there is plenty of entertainment in Benalmádena.

The famous Plaza Sol y Mar, also known as the 24-hour square, is home to several clubs and nightlife facilities. But also around the harbor there are cozy cocktail bars and some dancings.

6. Shopping

Around the port area of Benalmádena there are no less than 200 stores, including some nice clothing stores that sell various brands.

Of course, the souvenir shops should not be missing either.

Would you rather wander around a market? That’s possible, this is held on Friday from 10.00-14.00 hours. Jewelry, shoes, toys and fresh products are displayed here. Around the market you will find food trucks where you can have a snack.

7. Sports & Leisure

Benalmádena is a sporty village. In addition to the soccer fields and field hockey fields, you will also see many padel courts. This is a typical Spanish ball sport and is actually a mix of tennis and squash. Definitely worth a try!

Because Benalmádena is located on the coast, there are various water sports possible. Think of kayaking, fishing and diving, and so on.

The golfers among us can have a great time here, there are 3 golf courses in Benalmádena!

You may not believe it, but Benálmadena even has a real ice rink! It is open from October to May.

Would you rather take it easy? Then you can also choose to relax in one of the spas.

8. Beaches & Beach Clubs

The sandy beach of Benalmádena is long and there are several possibilities to rent sun beds and umbrellas. Children were also taken into account, as there are plenty of playgrounds.

As on almost every beach on the Costa de Sol, you will encounter ‘chiringuitos’ (beach bar/restaurant). A delicious fresh fish from the charcoal grill with an ice-cold ‘cerveza’ will go down well with most on a hot day. At Chiringuito Rafael for example, the ‘gambas pil-pil’ are very tasty!

A cozy bar at the beach is Luna Beach Club. Besides an extensive lunch and dinner menu, they also serve delicious cocktails.
