- Why La Alcaidesa?
1. General
La Alcaidesa is a large urbanization on the west side of the Costa del Sol, located in the municipality of La Linea and San Roque (Sotogrande), in Campo de Gibraltar (province of Cadiz). The guarded resort was developed in the early 90s. It has good beaches and sea views. It is about an hour and a half’s drive from Málaga airport and about half an hour from Gibraltar airport.
2. Sights
Because la Alcaidesa is a relatively young village you will not find much history and culture here.
Nearby you will find the town of La Línea de la Concepción. One of the sights here is the El Museo del Istmo. This museum contains photo collections of more than 2000 negatives about La Línea, archaeological pieces, shells and corals from the coast of Cadiz and everyday objects. In the numerous halls, visitors can see a series of national and international exhibitions on various interesting subjects. In some rooms travelling exhibitions are presented, mainly paintings, sculptures and private collections.
If you like sailing, you can certainly moor at La Alcaidesa Marina. On this beautiful harbor there is room for more than 600 boats and there are many facilities to be found. La Alcaidesa Marina has also been awarded the Blue Flag in recognition of its commitment to the sustainable development and operation of the marina.
3. Culinary delights
In terms of eateries there is not much choice in La Alcaidesa. But don’t worry because at La Vista Beach by Frank Rosin it is always nice to dine. The restaurant has Greek influences. This is also reflected in the color use of the interior: blue and white. It has a cozy terrace with lounge sofas where you can have a delicious cocktail or a good glass of wine. There are also several tables on the beach where you can dine in style. And all that with a super view of Gibraltar. The dishes are real paintings. Try the freshly grilled pulpo, you won’t regret it!
4. Lifestyle
Sport, beach, tranquility and nature are the key words of La Alcaidesa. Do you like more action and entertainment? Then you can go to one of the nearby towns.
A car is highly recommended in La Alcaidesa, because there is no public transport. You will generally see some elderly people or families with very young children.
5. Nightlife
In La Alcaidesa you will not find fancy nightclubs or cocktail bars. We therefore refer you to Sotogrande or Marbella.
There is only a handful of cafes. At the square in the middle of La Alcaidesa you will find Ivy Wine Bar. Here you will find wine, Gin & Tonic and various beers on tap. It is an English oriented bar that also serves food. Every week there is something new on the menu!
6. Shopping
Unfortunately, the shopaholics among us don’t get their money’s worth here. There are some stores around the square such as a supermarket, ice cream store and health food store.
In the nearby cities such as Sotogrande and La Línea de la Concepción you will find nice boutiques.
7. Sports & Leisure
Although La Alcaidesa is not large, there are two golf courses with spectacular views. Several championships were held here and the golf courses both have a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant.
Just a stone’s throw away, in the port of Sotogrande, you can rent sailboats or go fishing for a day at sea.
Would you rather be in the water? Then snorkeling or windsurfing is a good option.
La Alcaidesa is located in a beautiful green area. Here it is always possible to make a nice walk.
A nice ride on horseback or always wanted to learn to play polo? This is also possible in the nearby area.
8. Beaches & Beach Clubs
La Alcaidesa has one of the best sandy beaches on the coast. Peace and quiet is what you will find here. The beach itself does not really have facilities, except for some toilets and showers. However, it has been awarded a blue flag and offers a fantastic view over Gibraltar and Morocco.
D Blanco is a cozy beach bar annex restaurant where you can have a drink. You can also come here all day for something to eat and also during the winter months they are open. The restaurant is specialized in tuna dishes.
9. Real estate projects
