1. General
On the northern side of Marbella you will find the picturesque village of Ojén. It lies at the foot of the Sierra Blanca and is therefore located in a rough, mountainous area. Ojén was added to the list of the 50 best places to live by The Times and that is not surprising when you look at the pleasant atmosphere that you find here. 2. Sights
Ojén is a small mountain village where only a few things can be visited, but all are definitely worth a visit.
The caves of Ojén are one of the most unique features of the village. In ancient times, they were used as a sanctuary for animals or for food storage. From the caves you have a view over the village and you can just see the horizon of the Mediterranean Sea.
There is also an oil mill museum in the village. The old mill dates from 1800 and was recently restored. The accompanying machines are still used today for demonstrations. In this museum you can see how the liquid gold, the olive oil, is obtained.
Every month there is also a vibrant market in Ojén, with live acts and activities for children. Here you can do your shopping while being surrounded by the locals who come to enjoy the atmosphere.
3. Culinary delights
In Ojén you will find many traditional restaurants where you can have a good meal. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Sierra Gourmet or order some tapas at Casa Antonia. If you stay in Ojén, but prefer an evening at home, you can always have delicious paella’s delivered from Paellero and casa.
4. Lifestyle
In this village, the tranquility and nature are central. Because there are only about 3000 inhabitants, there is a very familiar atmosphere where everyone knows each other. Ojén is surrounded by nature, making it one of the most important factors that brings people to Ojén. Every day many tourists go into the Sierra Blanca or the Sierra Alpujata, on foot or by mountain bike to do a nice trip.
5. Nightlife
Life in Ojén is generally quiet, which means that there is not much to do at night. If you would like an evening out, it is best to go to Marbella. Here you will find a lot of places to go out and in just 15 minutes you reach the city.
6. Shopping
In Ojén you can go to the local supermarkets for basic necessities. Extensive shopping is unfortunately not possible here, but in 15 minutes by car you can go shopping in Marbella or in 20 minutes you reach Puerto Banús.
7. Sports & Leisure
Because Ojén is located in the mountains, it is obvious that it is possible to sport extensively in the surrounding nature. Here you can do beautiful routes in the Sierra Blanca or the Sierra Alpujata. If you prefer to practice your sport indoors, you can also go to various fitness clubs in the village. If you want to enjoy a drink after the sport, you can go to one of the local bars.
8. Beaches & Beach Clubs
If you like to spend a day at the beach, it’s best to go to Marbella. Here are some pleasant beaches such as Playa del Cable or Playa de Venus where you can sunbathe peacefully.
